Design an engaging portal experience that brings together disparate content from various systems.
The Challenge
Design an engaging user experience and information architecture that brings together disparate content from across the organization with access to resources, media, and training. To achieve this, we need to:
- Create the User Experience for the platform
- Design Navigation for Content Types
- Create a Community
- Enable Consistency and Findability
We created wireframes for each area of the portal, ensuring high information scent, so that users could quickly assess location, dates, duration, on/offline and the cost of each course. We also included social proof to increase trust and encourage employee participation.
Client
A large organization with employees, contractors, and volunteers across the country who take training throughout the year while serving the needs of the public.

Led UX design, information architecture, and stakeholder review sessions with a specific focus on findability and a search experience that leverages a faceted taxonomy.
Outcomes
A detailed prototype showing content, images, and portal functionality with robust documentation and wireframe annotations to support the next phase of work.

The Solution
Working closely with key stakeholders, we created a user experience design and information architecture that leverages taxonomy terms to create scannable content with high information scent to promote findability. It was especially important to provide details that would help employees choose the right learning opportunity.
The client wanted to promote the launch of the portal to all of its employees. We created a poster, hung in break rooms across the U.S., to highlight the value of the new portal and encouraging employees to login and engage in learning and community.
